Our series of vintage match boxes are inspired by the inventive spirit of Hamburgs, Hennig Brandt’s 1669 alchemical experiments (attempting to transform base metals into gold) and the 1855 Swedish invention of the safety matchbox by Gustaf Eric Pasch.

This large Matchbox has two faces that can be displayed. Produced in 1975, the front side celebrates Queen Elizabeths II mother's 75th Birthday. The revers side notes events happening Then (1900) and Now (1975). A stage facade has been added along with an original watercolour backdrop by artist Sophy Smith.
